autoreply recipe?

Hello,
I find it hard to follow without examples here. Filter would do what I
want but seems OTT and I have a reluctance to use filter
when there seem to be more appropriate tools.

I have a requirement to bounce with a message and original headers any
mail to one given id which might or might not have a passwd entry. Does
anyone have a simple receipe for this?
