I am running an exim on a Pentium 100 using Linux 2.0.29 with 40-80k
messages a day. Load is below 1 most of the time and that machine is also
running a full usenet feed and an anonymous ftp site. I have
queue_only_load set to 2.0 and smtp_accept_max not restricted. Have seen
around 20 or so active exims at the same time without significant changes
in the system load.
