RFC 822 does not apply to command lines. It is purely a description of
the format of body of a message as it is transported between hosts.

I do not know what sendmail does. Exim recognizes route-addrs on the
command line. However, if you set

collapse_source_routes

it will collapse all source routes, including those from the command
line. The world seems to be moving away from source routing; it is
deprecated in several places.
