Sometimes it's useful to bypass socks proxy and connect directly to the
destination. Like when fallback_hosts are in use or some match_ip should be in
the expansion. Currently it looks like there is no way to achieve such
behavior.

Handling a forced expansion failure for the socks_proxy option could be a
solution, like expand_check() does for TLS.
