That is certainly a good way.

Or you use a router that checks if the Maildir exists and uses an
appendfile transport with the directory setting. Even if you had a
sieve_inbox_path option, you had to have something to decide between
file and directory. Since Maildirs never go away on an empty mailbox,
checking for them to exist is an easy way.
