Under FreeBSD 13.2 I used port for Exim 4.97.1 to compile 4.98-RC0:
cd /usr/ports/mail/exim
rm files/patch-periodic-queue-runs files/patch-src-lookups-dnsdb.c files/patch-src_tls-openssl.c
make extract
cd work
rm -r exim-4.97.1
(downloaded exim-4.98-RC0.tar.bz2)
tar xf exim-4.98-RC0.tar.bz2
mv exim-4.98-RC0 exim-4.98RC0
(I have events disabled in `make config`, so commented out as described in
https://lists.exim.org/lurker/message/20240607.224111.69a17532.en.html )
cd /usr/ports/mail/exim
(in Makefile edited EXIM_VERSION from 4.97.1 to 4.98RC0 )
make
make deinstall reinstall
Works so far.
