I changed the title of this ticket now that I better understand what causes the
issue. I use "needs" because without this fix, the command never finishes
because it's unable to ever get out of this endless loop.
I.e., this issue does not simply generate some superfluous error msgs but makes
the search process not work at all.
So, in this case, it's a serious bug for anyone who has such a symlink
recursion on their file systems (most apparently don't fortunately, and I'll
get this fixed on my system ASAP because who knows what other inexplicable
problems this has caused in the past)
