It is not clear who has initiated this wish.Few years back, when I ported the interpreted version of PCRE to classic z/OS, Zoltan wanted to develop JIT version for the IBM mainframe. At the time, both Phil and I had discouraged it due to the proprietary nature of that platform. If anybody wants to do it, then please be aware that tis is a very complex CISC system and IBM continues to develop it and at time keeps things unpublished. As akways, I will be mire than glad to share my experience with that platform

Bug ID: 2635
Summary: Port PCRE2 JIT to Linux on IBMz (s390x)
Product: PCRE
Version: N/A
Hardware: Other
OS: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: wishlist
Priority: medium
Component: Code
Assignee: ph10@???
Reporter: dje.gcc@???
CC: pcre-dev@???
Enable PCRE2 JIT on Linux on IBMz (s390x-linux) and optimize to achieve
equivalent speedup over non-JIT code as x86_64. Goal is full functionality and
passing testsuite with JIT enabled.
An unfinished port of PCRE2 JIT to s390x exists in the Linux-on-IBM-z Github
account and can be used as a starting point. IBM will contribute the code as
necessary.
