Thanks for raising this. I'm sure you realized that utf8.c is just a bit of
hackery for testing. I don't think I had ever compiled it with warnings
enabled. However, since you raised the issue, and as I have some time on my
hands, I have compiled it with lots of warnings, which found your issues and a
few more. I've fixed those, but also, while I was at it, I upgraded the program
with a few more features. It now warns for illegal Unicode characters. At the
same time, I've done something similar to the ucptest program, adding some
features and additional tests. Comments at the head of the source files explain
what these maintenance tools can do.
