I haven't had time to look at your reference yet, but it does occur to me that
it would be simple to add an option PCRE2_SUBSTITUTE_REPLACEMENT_ONLY that does
not copy the "in-between" bits of subject, so the output would just be the
replacement. If you set the global flag, you would get a concatenation of all
the replacements. I will consider further. (Maybe this is what you thought of
as well.)
