pcregrep is obsolete. Please upgrade to pcre2grep. However, even if you
continue to use pcregrep, please upgrade to the latest release:
$ pcregrep --version
pcregrep version 8.43 2019-02-23
$ pcregrep -M 'a|b' zzz
a
b
ababab
