Thank you for the report. The PCRE1 8.43 release is very recent, and there is
unlikely to be another for at least a year, if not more, because PCRE1 is very
much in "serious maintenance only, because it's been superseded" mode. PCRE2,
the 10.xx series, is where development is happening - it has been available for
four years now. PCRE2 has also been subjected to much more ASAN and other types
of testing and code analysis.

pcretest is a test program that was hacked up in the early days. It was heavily
rewritten as pcre2test for PCRE2, and that is much saner code. I feel there is
little point in spending time in cleaning up pcretest. However, I have made a
note of this report, and next time any work is done on PCRE1, I will consider
doing any trivial fixes. But please don't hold your breath. This is unlikely to
happen for many months.
