Well, it depends on how you interpret "erroneous" :-) and (more seriously) this
may be confusing to non-native English speakers. Anyway, I have just committed
a patch that I hope sorts this out. It turned out that there were issues with
\X and other syntactically valid but non-allowed-in-classes escape sequences.
The dangerous option - which was implemented because it was requested by a user
- now applies only to syntactically unrecognized or malformed sequences.
