I have the same.

meine-oma ~ # exim -bP log_file_path
log_file_path = /var/log/exim/exim_%s.log
meine-oma ~ #

It seems dovecot-lda runs as the user the mail gets delivered to. I can
dovecot-lda configure like that:

protocol lda {
   # Space separated list of plugins to load (default is global 
mail_plugins).
     mail_plugins = sieve
     log_path = /var/log/dovecot-lda-errors.log
     info_log_path = /var/log/dovecot-lda.log
}


but then those logfiles need to be world writeable.
