One more attempt from my side to get this resolved upstream (we prefer avoiding
patches where possible).
The issue here is the "marking the cache as random=rejected". It's not
rejected, it's temporarily rejected. There are quite a lot of cases where a
mailserver may return a 4xx for any invalid recipient, for example when they
are migrating their users between email systems (and until all users have
migrated a 4xx is returned so the sender retries). With the current behavior,
all traffic to the valid recipients is suddenly rejected.
If the above is not convincing (which I presume so as I'm not an expert and
likely am just repeating the others ;)), my other argument would be that if
this change from previous Exim versions was intentional you would have expected
it to be shown in the changelog?
