This issue is fixed already. (We do not have a bug tracker number for it).
The fix is
- included in the current master branch (and will be included in 4.90)
- included in the exim-4_89+fixes branch (as published in our main repo)
- included in Debian exim4-4.89-4 (as stated by Andreas Metzler)
