no need to hurry, it's just a suggestion...
Regarding your approach of anchoring the match: the problem I see with it is
that it may simply fail depending on the nature of the pattern and the subject
string.
For instance, given the pattern /foo|foobar/, I would not get an exact match
against "foobar" because the first alternative gets tried, well, first, and
that completes the match only against the first portion of the subject. (The
other alternative, which would result in an exact match, is not tried at all as
the first is not failing.) Am I not seeing something obvious...?
