With some help from this list, I have discovered that Yahoo servers hate
pipelining. I disabled pipelining fom the transport and now there are less
and less defers from Yahoo and mails don't get stuck for hours on the queue.

So, the transport that seems to be working well (just for the records) is:

throttled_smtp:
driver = smtp
connection_max_messages = 5
max_rcpt = 5
serialize_hosts = *
retry_use_local_part
*hosts_avoid_pipelining = **
tls_verify_cert_hostnames = !*


If someone finds something better, I'd be happy to try that too.
