Sorry, lost track of things.
Yes, the goto was spurious. I started working with an earlier version of exim
where a return in that spot would fix the segfault, and while I don't quite
remember how I got from point A to point C, it descended from that, but is
totally redundant and unnecessary.
I provided the test message as demonstration for the bug without regard to
potential use as test cases. I can add them as proper test cases in a separate
bug report if it would be useful.
