Regarding comment 25, yes, I did manage to do some trimming. I managed to get
it down to 2 email addresses in the same domain. That was all summed up in
comment 28.

When doing the testing for comment 28, I did three different scenarios. Only
one of these exhibited the fault. I was hoping that this would help you home
in on the problem.

I'd have hoped that the ~200kB of log files would have given the deterministic
view, but happy to create another summary of it in as much detail as I can.

Fundamentally, the problem lies with the hints file not being updated when part
of a complex delivery fails. This only happens in an obscure and complicated
scenario. The hints file then causes the queued retry to not be attempted and
the queued message is marked as delivered.
