Hi Jon,
You may not have answered the question, but your solution has worked.
In order to continue working with the historical <secret1> and <secret2> I
simply created a local user with <secret1> as the user ID, and the set the
password to <secret2>
I then just disabled the new user from being usable for any other purpose.
