I should have said that I've also tried the version found on one of the EXIM
sites

{pam{$auth2:${sg{$auth3}{:}{::}}}}

and also, just to keep it in line with what's already there

{pam{$2:${sg{$3}{:}{::}}}}

but that made no difference
