Which does not solve the issue at all since one now needs to call exim with a
different command line depending on the exim version. The issue is needing a
distinction, not where the distinction is needed. Having the macro defined in
the exim binary means that it is defined in the same place that causes the
distinction to be needed, reducing the local effort needed to a single .ifdef
which can be the same through all versions.
