I've actually tried to answer to exactly this question. The older exim will be
able to talk with rspamd with a certain configuration option enabled in the
runtime rspamd configuration. This option is now *on* by default that means
that an old exim will still be able to talk with rspamd. However, using of
shutdown is discourage by performance reasons (to implement client timeouts
properly).
