Subject: [exim-dev] [Bug 1788] Some deliveries not re-attempted after 'T=remote_smtp defer (-53): retry time not reached for any host' on first delivery attempt

--- Comment #4 from Jeremy Harris <jgh146exb@???> ---
The asterisk means that the same SMTP connection was used:
http://exim.org/exim-html-current/doc/html/spec_html/ch-log_files.html#SECID252

However, if there's no other mention of 1aQLXt-0006xu-N5 preceding the
"completed" line... something is very broken. Either something apart from
Exim spirited it out of the spool, or your log lines are going missing.
Is this a direct log file being written by Exim, or do you use syslog?

You mention at one point "the retry queue" - well, Exim maintains a spool with
as-yet undelivered messages and uses it for everything - not purely for
retries.
So I'd like also to know that you're not running something exotic with other
non-Exim processes manipulating Exim's spool, and thereby creating some notion
of a separate "retry queue".

Finally, do you have confirmation for this specific message that it never
arrived
at the destination? Any logs from Plusnet for the connection that delivered
the
other pair, and around that time for your IP addresses?
