It already exists in X11R6, which is available for both HP-UX 11.0 and
SunOS 4.1.1_U1 (sun3), both being historic by now.

IIRC everybody switched to X11R6 when it was available, so you'll have
a hard time finding ancient systems without. No need for magic here. :)
