The nature of perl regex is kind of a forward-only search. Defining the effect
of control verbs like (*SKIP) would be difficult for backward searching. The
only thing I could imagine is moving backward in the input (but the pattern
matched forward), but (*SKIP) could create infinite loops in that case.
