Cutthrough looks interesting thanks for suggesting it. We may be looking at managing things on a per mailbox level going forward so haven't the ability to define lists rather than leave it up to the Exchange boxes will give us more control anyway.

Another option you might look into is cutthrough delivery on your Exim.
I don't know what Exchange's response to a mail with one-valid, one-invalid recipients is though. Please tell me it isn't accept-and-bounce...
