Bug ID: 1687
Summary: Option to limit the length of a physical (header?)
line
Product: Exim
Version: 4.85+ HEAD
Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: NEW
Severity: wishlist
Priority: medium
Component: Mail Receipt
Assignee: nigel@???
Reporter: hs@???
CC: exim-dev@???
It seems that other mail systems refuse to accept messages with overlong header
lines (I suppose, the OP is talking about physical lines). They just close the
connection.
Some problems arise in such a case, since Exim notes this as a 'host problem',
not a 'message problem' in it's retry data base.
The best way to avoid such situation would be
- an option, that blocks such messages already during the receipt
- an option, that allows folding such overlong physical header lines
It should be thought about the this option
- as an ACL element?
- as an expandable global option?
(I'm just writing this wishlist item, because I don't want to forget this
issue.
It can be discussed on the exim-dev list)
