The last logfile that's still open is quite small (500k; I rotated manually to
observe it), so I had a look at it for irregularities.
The only rare event I found is
Connection from [nn.nn.nn.nn] refused: too many connections
which appeared just once this morning. I grepped old logs for it, and found two
more occurrences, 5 and 8 days ago.
Since I see the dangling file once or twice a week, this might be the bad guy.
