Webmail really has all to do with a POP3/IMAP4 server and not SMTP. I think
so, unless you had to configure webmail to do authentication when sending
mail.
Is that the case? Do you see log entries showing that webmail clients
actually authenticate?

Can you please show how the SMTP configuration looks like on these MuAs?
Special focus on the Advance settings for the e-mail clients.
