work-in-progress patch
Hi,
the attached patch contains the solution I said before. The JIT part has not
done yet, but otherwise it passes all regression tests. Unfortunately I had to
rework a lot of smaller things, so the patch is a bigger than I anticipated.
Philip what do you think about these changes? I am still thinking about a
better name for the new flag. Ben, could you try the patch on your machine?
