> AIUI this is written as "\uFFFD" or "\xEF\xBF\xBD" in C source. You are right, but I decided to have a pure ASCII replacement character, to allow for none-utf8-clean terminal session while running the test suite. This might work, but I'm not sure.
Perhaps someone, who has installed the patch and has run test 600, can comment.
