Thank you for pointing out this disastrous oversight; the man page was never
updated when the 16-bit library was created. In fact, the length is in 16-bit
data units, not characters, for the 16-bit library. I have updated the
individual functions' man pages and also added clarification and corrections to
the pcre16, pcre32, and pcreapi pages. This is just in time for the 8.33
release, which is currently undergoing testing. I have committed the new
versions of the documentation to the repository.
