I have tried your pattern using pcretest on Linux and the latest PCRE code, and
it does not crash. Of course, I may not have done it right. I note that you say
"The positive look-ahead assertion, i.e. (?<=\\)" in your message: in fact that
is a positive lookbehind assertion, but I guess that was just your typo.

I am going to close this bug, because there is nothing more I can do. Feel free
to reopen it if you can provide an example of a problem on the latest PCRE,
preferably using pcretest rather than PHP, so that I don't run the risk of
screwing it up when converting it to pcretest for testing.
