# Except when they appear in comments, the following placeholders in this
# source are replaced when it is turned into a runnable script:
#
# PERL_COMMAND
# ZCAT_COMMAND
# COMPRESS_SUFFIX

The script install honours the choices made at Exim configure time.

On my system, this means that bzcat is used to read compressed files, detected
by the bz2 suffix.

If you want to supply a patch which prefers log suffices as configured, but has
some fallback filename detection methods to let one version of the script be
used across diverse installs with different options, then we'd consider it.
But as things stand, Exim does exactly what you want already.
