Had I not written PCRE I might have written myself a perlgrep in Perl,
because I was getting fed up with not having Perl regex in grep.
At the time I created PCRE (1997), as well as Unix and Linux, I was
using another operating system that did not have Perl available, so it
made sense to write pcregrep for use everywhere.
Like PCRE itself, pcregrep has developed rather further than I initially
expected, but I have no plans to write pcresed (or pcreawk or anything
else).
