Dropped the error cases, since that's redundant with SSL_MODE_AUTO_RETRY. Oh,
and man-page notes that was added in 0.9.6, so it should be safe for us to use
without guards.

Haven't figured out the TLS downgrade barfing yet, but have not spotted
anything in Exim which would cause it. Suspect a library issue.
