When mail is sent inside containers, the same sendmail binary is used as
outside the containers, so technically itis Exim that's writing into the
queue - nobody is writing directly into the queue. So let me try to clarify
the situation.

The containers run the same linux distro and use the same Exim version and
configuration files. The containers do not and should not run an smtp
daemon. The /var/spool/exim4 directory is shared among containers and host
node. My question is, how does the Exim sendmail binary (which according to
the man page seems to be called "receiving process") tell the smtp daemon
to process emails in the queue? E.g., is there a socket or pipe I don't
know of?

Restricting the container's Exim binaries may not be required for my setup,
but sounds very interesting!
