Please do not define your own version of AM_SILENT_RULES.

If you want to use AM_SILENT_RULES([yes]) and remain the code portable to old
versions of automake, replace

AM_SILENT_RULES([yes])

with

m4_ifdef([AM_SILENT_RULES], [AM_SILENT_RULES([yes])])
