Summary: Optional shred when removing messages from spool
Product: Exim
Version: N/A
Platform: Other
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
Severity: wishlist
Priority: medium
Component: Queues
AssignedTo: nigel@???

I would like the option for email to be shredded when removed from the mail
spool, before being deleted. In the same way that GNU shred behaves:
https://www.gnu.org/s/coreutils/manual/html_node/shred-invocation.html
I'd just like to know that email can't be recovered from the MTA spool disk
once it has been delivered.
Perhaps a couple of global configuration options?
spool_shred_iterations = 10
spool_shred_zero = true
Documentation would need to address issues like filesystem journals still
containing scraps of the message in certain cases. Guidance for that could be
found in the shred man pages. I would happily write the documentation, but
don't have the expertise to write the code.
I fully recognise that very few systems are likely to need this functionality,
but just wanted to get the idea on the record anyway. I think this would have
value to some people.
