If you read that text carefully, it states:
"As of Exim 3.33, the only data that regrettably can't be stored there is *
primary_hostname* (the main hostname of the box) and *qualify_domain*."
Also, Exim 4.00 was released in February 2002, the month following the
timestamp in the sample configure file.
