yes, several times actually.
in one setup we had an OpenLDAP farm with several hosts, load balanced
exim's as frontend and several cyrus imapd backends (with locally
running exims used for the final lmtp delivery).
each user's ldap entry stored the final backend destination in the
mailHost attribute, which was used in a manualroute router by exim.
worked and hopefully still works pretty well ;-)
