It is not clear to me exactly what the issue is that she is
complaining about, though I suspect the AUTH error that is shown below
is tied to it.

Gmail is attempting to use Auth with your server. What do you see in
your logs about why auth is failing? What do you seen when you run
'exim -bh ip.of.gmail.server' and act like you're gmail sending an
email to this address?

Gmail sticks to the RFC's very closely and adds "On Behalf Of" to
emails sent with an email address that they do not serve. Basically
there are three ways to use gmail servers:
1. Use a gmail.com address.
2. Assign your domain to be used with gmail.
3. Use an email alias with gmail (your domain is served by someone
other than gmail servers).
Case #1 is simple. Say I have the address todd@???. It's
obvious that this is served by gmail. So when I send from gmail, the
>From header just has First Last <todd@???>
Case #2 is straightforward too. Say I have the domain example.com
signed up with gmail. I sign in as todd@???, and I can send
as todd@??? and the From header has First Last
<todd@???>.
Case #3 is more complicated. Say I ALSO have the domain example.org,
but I host it on my own mail server. I have todd@??? on my
mail server forwarded to todd@???, which gets delivered to
gmail servers. I add todd@??? as an alias sending address in
my todd@??? mailbox on gmail.
Here's the complication. When I send an email as todd@???
using gmail, gmail knows that it's not the primary service for this
domain. Therefore, it sends email from your alias, but it says "on
behalf of" a mailbox that it _does_ have complete authority for, the
one you signed in as, which is todd@???. So you see From
First Last <todd@???> On Behalf Of <todd@???>.
There are two ways to make this stop happening.
1. Change the customer domain to be hosted by gmail. Probably not
your goal since that would take business away from you (but if you
truly value your customer, you should mention it as an option).
2. Configure gmail to use smtp auth to send *@example.org (i.e. your
customer's domain) email through your mail server.

*WHAT* is saying that her return address is coming back undeliverable.
What is she using as her return address? And who is she sending to
that says her return address is undeliverable.
