I meant the whole system, comprising of two or more computers which may
or may not be under your control.

If I don't get a prompt response from postmaster@ when I report such an
error, I tend to report it as network abuse to the entity responsible
for the IP addresses in question. It is a denial of service attack
waiting to happen. Or, in your case, actually happening.
