Comment: Its a load of bollocks by people uncertain about the then
computer world. Its meaningless waffle in today's world.
Why does Exim Users mailing list in 2010 need an internal email header
identifier ? I filter on the Subject line's {exim} and it works well
for me.
Just because people have always used a horse and cart to move their
shopping is it wise to reject all alternative forms of transport ?

Comment: Rights and Authority do not apply in that context to today's
Exim users mailing list.
In today's world someone creates a mailing list. One can use an existing
application or create one's own (its a simple exercise). People join
and participate in mailing list as of choice. The owner has the ability
to run, close, restrict access and choose whatever delivery system they
wish.
Anyone can create a mailing list and call it news.exim.org or other name
ending with exim.org. They certainly don't need authority or rights to
do that. Whether anyone would bother to subscribe is doubtful.
So where do the airy fairy rights and authority descend onto the Exim
mailing list and who is going around the world looking for occurrences
of a mailing list that internally calls itself exim-fans.exim.org but
externally uses the name mta-users@??? ?
Request For Comments number 2,919 was created in a bygone age when
people genuinely were still exploring the possibilities of Internet /
networked enabled computing and some were control freaks who wanted to
retain power over the abilities and choices available to others. Don't
forget Bill Gates pronounced in circa 1997? that the Internet was an
irrelevance.
Since then, in just 9 years, people's knowledge and use of the Internet
has improved and simplified. Users have been mainly liberated and today
enjoy freedoms they could have never anticipated twenty or even 10 years
ago.
My fundamental point is computer systems don't need unnecessary crap,
waffle, pseudo organisation or inefficient cumbersome baggage. Sweep
away the non-longer required and enjoy the genuine freedom delivered by
computers.
