Other posts by the reporter say that he is using MailScanner

Another person confirms that MailScanner can corrupt message spool files in
this way

This is therefore a bug in MailScanner which is fucking up spool files
and not something exim should be expected to cope with.

Suggest this be reported to the MailScanner project.
