Hi all,
Some background to my query:
I am fairly new to Exim and e-mail administration.
I manage an exim4 ( on Debian ) mail server which is tasked with sending
solicited bulk mail. I do _not_ want this mail server ( or myself ) to
be associated with spam in any way if possible.
To this end, I would like to automatically extract bounce message
details and their associated addresses from Exim's mail-logs to be piped
into an unsub'ing script which removes addresses that have received
550-type bounces. I got this idea whilst reading AOL's
postmaster.info.aol.com pages.
I don't know if this is an elegant way to handle this sort of problem.
Suggestions or recommendations are welcome.
Does Exim have the tools to do / support this action ? Could someone
please point me to the right place in the documentation which I could
read to get this going ?
I've looked through the Exim spec document on my distribution but cannot
find what I _think_ I am looking for.
I've also googled for "Exim4 automatic bounce message extraction" but
have mostly found descriptions of Exims bounce handling process - not
how to 'script' it.
I want to be clear that I am not looking for an answer on a silver
platter - I would like advice from the community on how to handle this
problem and possibly be pointed in the direction of which segments of
the documentation I should be reading to help me learn Exim better.
Thank you for the taking the time to read this mail.
Ciao,
Sven
