When you build Exim, there is a certain amount of configurability
about what features are included or not. I've no idea how small you
can make it. My binary (x86) is fairly fully featured and is 776K.

However, if all that is required is relaying, then perhaps you might
look beyond sendmail and exim, and find something that is simpler and
doesn't have the features and complexity. Looking through the Debian
package list, perhaps something like esmtp[1] or ssmtp[2] might be
suitable.
