Yes, this file exists on both servers:
/usr/local/mysql5/lib/mysql/libmysqlclient.a
I guess it's automatically generated along with the .so from the MySQL 5
build script. (I've built it from source, too, version 5.0.51.)
How does exim or ld determine which library form to use?
